21st May 2013
Windsurfing: Alton reservoiur
Wind Direction: NNW
Wind Stength: F4
Surf / Sea State: flat
Air Temperature: cool
Sea Temperature: cool
Weather: OK cool
Max Speed: mid 20kts
Distance Covered: 1 1/2hrs o (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)

Went Alton today, Arrived 2.30 Only Brian was out on 7.5 (others packed up) - wind look OK maybe 15kts and coming from the far bank to the clubhouse (not quite on onshore) so runs were from club house to the old racing beat mark on the left hand bank near the trees. (if u raced there back in the day and made that mark first it was game over!)
Runs were very good down the middle – forgot my poxy gps – but mid 20kts. Couldn’t go to the dam as there was a friking great hole.
Wind was shifty, but as a ex pond racer, u know to watch the surface, see the gust, on ur toes 3 pumps and boom! Yeeeeahhhhh! Brian was on a 130JP and of course he was curious as to the 146L JP carbon potential hooked to a 7.7 H2 Twin cam slalom sail:) I had fun showing him my arse :0 although to be fair, I saw his a couple of times!
To be honest I would have given it 4 star, but you couldn’t make the dam, nor you couldn’t quite make the beat mark, and there was some big shifts that gave me a nice dunk.
You guys are right though on one thing. Your old school shitty pointed tail boards (kings at the dip) are likely to be shite there, as this is def floaty wide tail flat board heaven, and they take you through big holes on apparent wind, friking bullseye on most runs!! Anyone thinking of a big board JP 146 pro Excite ride is frikking hot!
Bought a high tec piece of gear from UK slalom king Ant B, a North Shox mast foot.. It was set to max damping (I think) but didn’t really notice any difference! 2 reasons I think, the pond was dead flat, and the bloody board is already super smooth. North didn’t design it for a pond so hey! Am sure the poxy Felixstowe dip waves will test it fully :)
Pond sailing can be tedious and without Brian it would have been boring cos everything is too easy and not challenging if wind is not strong, especially without the GPS as Squiz said. Trying to fine tune angles to maximise speed does keep u occupied. Cant win – dip too challenging at times, the pond not big enough to push u to the edge.
Packed up 5.0 with Brian as wind eased. As soon as I got the Steamer off it picked up to a good steady 20kts – bollocks – def 3 star now!
